Simon Miller, known by all as Si. Aged just 21 was taken from us on the 24th of June 2003, whilst
serving his country as a Royal Military Policeman in the Maysan Province of Iraq, along with his five
comrades.
Si stood his ground with his five comrades against impossible odds, against a mob of five hundered
hate filled Iraqi's. The mob were firing AK47s and RPGs at the Military Police, who were only trying
to establish a safe environment for the locals of Al Majarr Al Kabir, but still our son and his
comrades refused to return fire in order not to hit any innocent civilians,as the gun men were
hiding behind them. They paid for that bravery with their young lives, they gave the ultimate
sacrifice for their country, no soldiers have died braver - - -we are so proud of you Si, you have
always been a hero, I always knew you were destined for greater things and that you were to good for
this life.

Si was a brilliant Policeman and had a huge career in front of him,his passing is not just our loss,
but a loss to us all.

Words can not portray the immense love and pride we have for our amazing talented and beautiful son,
nor can they explain the immense loss we will suffer forever.

Si's wonderful brother Jon, has been a rock for us and, through Si's encouragement also serves with
the Royal Military Police and, has thankfully recently returned safely from Afghanistan. Jon told us
that Si looked after him out there and, brought him home safe - - - that is Si all over.

Si - - - I was and always will be in awe of you son, time won't pass soon enough until we meet
again, but we will, that I promise you mate. All our love forever, God bless,Mum & Dad ,Jon and
your beautiful wife Carol -Anne. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Amazing Si

Royal Military Police

An amazing man with an amazing smile,
Who has left this land for just a short while?
You roamed the desert in heat and dust,
To do the job you know was a must.
Our lives are empty now you’re not around
You were our meaning, our feet on the ground.
Dark days upon us is all that we see,
No happy ending, no place to be,
Come home our soldier come home us
Come give us your smile you know it’s a must,
You gave them your all you gave them your best,
You gave them your life now lay down and rest

Amazing Si

Six Brave Men

Six brave men so tall so strong,
Six brave men that did no wrong,
Six brave men who paid the price,
Six brave men who gave their lives,
Six brave men that did not hide,
Six brave men that stood with pride,
Six brave men just left to die,
Six brave men would ask you why,
Six brave men sent on a lie,
Six brave men you where the best,
Six brave men now lay down and rest.

Si, you were a good mate at school and I still miss you mate. Its hard to think you are gone when I look back at our childhood. A couple of things stand out for me...one is the time me you and maca went to wet n wild and had to walk through meadowell - Im sure that place is similar to some places in iraq! :) then theres the time we went to Lea Eubanks house and played on the decks and the microphone MCing and DJing til we blew up! Dude, theres alot of things I remember and I guess people dont realise the importance of these things until its too late. Our walk through meadowell was a laugh at the time but now its a huge part of what I remember you for - good times and worry free childhood. So much changes as you move from childhood to adulthood and losing a good friend shouldn't be one of them.

Rest in peace my friend. My thoughts are now, and often are with your family. Happy belated birthday mate.

My angel was a soldier boy
travelling far and wide,
He served his country faithfully
with his comrades by his side.

My soldier boy was just a child
when he signed up for the cause,
but little did we know that soon
he would be fighting in the wars.

He wore his uniform so proud,
and medals for all to see,
but little did I know quite soon,
he wouldn't come back to me.

So as he waved bye bye that day
We both stood there and cried,
and then that awful letter came
for his country he had died.

I sometimes smile, I sometimes cry
now that we are apart
I will never forget you soldier boy
You're always in my heart.

A SOLDIERS POEM

ITS CHRISTMAS DAY ALL IS SECURE

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE
AND TO SEE JUST WHO, IN THIS SMALL HOME DID LIVE

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE -
NO TINSEL NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY THE MANTLE JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF A FAR DISTANT LAND
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS.
THEN A SOBER THOUGHT CAME INTO MY MIND

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
T'WAS THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN DISORDER
NOT HOW I PICTURED A LONE SOLDIER..
WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ,
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED

I REALISED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS, WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT
AND SOON ROUND THE WORLD THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY

THEY ALL ENJOY FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP BUT WONDER, HOW MANY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME?

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED, I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE
"SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE.
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE
MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS"

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP.
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SAT AND SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHTS CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE, ON THAT COLD DARK NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOUR, SO WILLING TO FIGHT...

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE
WHISPERED "CARRY ON SANTA, CHRISTMAS DAY IS SECURE"
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND - AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!"

THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BY A BRITISH PEACE KEEPING SOLDIER STATIONED OVERSEAS.

THE FOLLOWING IS HIS REQUEST - I THINK IT IS REASONABLE.

PLEASE WOULD YOU DO ME THE KIND FAVOUR OF SENDING THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS
YOU CAN

CHRISTMAS WILL BE COMING SOON AND MUCH CREDIT IS DUE TO OUR BRITISH SERVICE
MEN AND WOMEN FOR OUR BEING ABLE TO CELEBRATE THESE FESTIVITIES.
LET'S TRY IN THIS SMALL WAY TO PAY BACK A TINY BIT OF WHAT WE OWE!
